How Construction Documentation Has Changed Due to COVID-19

Posted by

COVID-19 has shaken our economy and our way of life as we know it. Never in modern history has a health crisis emerged so quickly and so close to home. Coronavirus has had a profound effect on many of our friends and family members, cutting out a significant portion of the workforce.

Unfortunately, the construction industry has been among the hardest hit. Social distancing and quarantine measures have brought many businesses to a standstill, and leaders are still working to find the best solutions they can muster. But there is still hope.

We are all in this together.

It starts with the way we handle ourselves on the job site. The construction community has done an amazing job of coming together during this crisis to develop new strategies to ensure the safety and prosperity of its workforce. From implementing new training programs to taking extra precautions to protect team members, there is a lot that managers can do to mitigate the risk of contracting this virus.

At the core of these initiatives are major changes in the way we handle construction documentation. At Gadzoom, we are proud to stand up for our hard-working peers by helping to spearhead this effort. Here are some modifications to administrative documents that you can expect moving forward:

Activity Hazard Analyses

COVID-19 has changed the way we look at AHAs. It has forced the industry to think outside of the box, no longer are job hazards constrained to physical risks like falling or slipping, COVID-19 has given us new, unseen concerns. Due to the many obvious risk management issues, contracting the virus has become the major worry of both employees and companies. As such, the responsibility falls on management to inform and educate their teams on how to best protect themselves from coronavirus.

Everyone knows that companies have already lost weeks on their project schedules. Those setbacks are only going to get worse as we see the true extent to which COVID-19 has impacted the bottom line of construction companies. Because we want to help, we will continue to offer complimentary COVID-19 AHAs created using the latest available information to specifically address the current pandemic. Both the COVID-19 AHA and Exposure Prevention Plan are available at no charge to anyone who signs up for a free trial of our software.

Accident Prevention Plans

Much like AHAs, now Accident Prevention Plans must also include additional safety plans for COVID-19. OSHA has already released new guidelines for the construction industry, and managers need to take note: they will be required to provide more comprehensive documentation to move projects forward.

These requirements range from conducting meetings and project scheduling to additional PPE and cleaning and sanitizing tools and equipment between uses. Yes, it is one more paperwork requirement, but it’s important to get this one right.  Once again, Gadzoom wants to help. Along with our COVID-19 AHA, we have made our COVID-19 Exposure Prevention Plan available free of charge, as well. Using Gadzoom, contractors can prepare high-end safety and administrative documents in a fraction of the normal time. Whether creating the COVID-19 AHA or Exposure Prevention Plan individually, or simultaneously with an APP and other documents, Gadzoom really is that easy. Watch the video below and see for yourself.
